Considering an Aged Care Home

Deciding to move into an aged care home is often a time of stress, high emotion, a longing for the past and uncertainty about the future. It is a challenging and emotional decision for the person moving and their family, friends and carers.

Like moving house, when you're moving into an aged care home, there are a few steps you need to take before you move.

To make sure you find a home that you're comfortable in and that will suit your needs, you may like to visit a few different places. You can ask each home about the types of services they offer and whether they specialise in low-level or high-level residential care – or both.

The application process is simple and you can apply to as many homes as you like. The homes should explain to you about any fees and charges that you may be asked to pay. These should be included in the agreement that you make with your aged care home.

Lastly, you may like to let people such as friends, family members, your doctor and even your bank know you're moving so they can also be prepared.
